BIG CAREER BECKONS FOR DAN SKELTON'S CAPTAIN FOREZ

HARBOUR GREY ATR Tracker
(Lingfield, 14 December)

Expensive Zoffany filly from the Richard Hannon yard but was surprisingly weak in the market, drifting to 12-1 at the off.

Sean Levey always had Harbour Grey well placed and it was only the previous racecourse experience of hot favourite Cercle D’or that enabled him to prevail over the fast-finishing runner-up.

This was by no means a strong maiden but it was still an encouraging debut.

VARSOVIAN ATR Tracker
(Chelmsford City, 15 December)

Not badly handicapped these days but Dean Ivory’s gelding did far too much in the early stages of this seven-furlong contest.

Consequently, Varsovian ran out of puff and was headed at the furlong pole.

This six-time winner over six furlongs may have found this trip just beyond him and there’s a race in this speedy gelding this winter.

CAPTAIN FOREZ ATR Tracker
(Ascot, 16 December)

What an imposing individual and a glittering career surely beckons over fences in the long run.

Captain Forez, third to smart Jenkins at Newbury’s Hennessy fixture, continued his education with an excellent second to enterprisingly-ridden Capitaine.

Jumping with precision throughout, Dan Skelton’s four-year-old stayed on well in what looked an upmarket affair.

DUBAI FASHION ATR Tracker
(Lingfield, 17 December)

Has finished runner-up on her last three starts and, as a consequence, keeps edging up the ratings.

Saeed Bin Suroor’s three-year-old seems genuine enough and she caught a proper all-weather hot-shot in impressive winner Battalion in the Listed Betway Quebec Stakes.

The well-backed Dubai Fashion held every chance before being outpaced early in the straight, eventually running on to snatch second spot from reliable yardstick Grendisar.

CAPE DISCOVERY ATR Tracker
(Lingfield, 18 December)

Richard Hughes has his string rolling along nicely and Cape Discovery looks another potential winner.

Understandably keen on his first start in 216 days, Cape Discovery was well handled by Shane Kelly and held every chance before finishing third, beaten a length, by Plutocracy.

A dual Windsor winner when last spotted in May, this ex-Irish four-year-old was having only his sixth career start and is open to more improvement around middle distances.

FIVE STAR FRANK ATR Tracker
(Chelmsford City, 19 December)

Made a promising start to his handicapping career, chasing home in-form Dazacam in this five-furlong dash run at a blistering pace.

Jim Crowley was happy to bide his time in the slipstream of the three trailblazers and Five Star Frank briefly looked the most likely winner until Dazacam arrived late on the scene.

Eve Johnson Houghton should fine her colt a suitable opportunity in due course.
