EXPECT MARIE OF LYON TO BUILD ON WILFRID PROMISE THIS AUTUMN

MARIE OF LYON
(Ripon, 18 August)
Gradually finding her peak form for Richard Fahey, building on a midfield run in the Stewards’ Cup with this solid seventh behind Gunmetal in the William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap. Marie Of Lyon couldn’t quicken with the principals, finishing third in the stands’ side group, and it’s worth recalling how she flourished in September/October last season (won twice).

EVERYTHING FOR YOU
(Beverley, 15 August)
Bounced back to form at Nottingham 13 days earlier when a close second to Jack Regan and this was another very solid effort. Sir Michael Stoute’s winner Hamlul continues on a rapid upward curve but Everything For You didn’t flinch under pressure, pulling three lengths clear of the third. Kevin Ryan can find the four-year-old a race before too long.

ONE TO GO
(Chelmsford City, 17 August)
Beaten a neck by Hallalulu 10 days earlier at Nottingham, One To Go came up short again in this one-mile maiden auction stakes. However, Tim Easterby’s colt was unlucky to clash with a juvenile debutante that certainly knew his job in Anycity, another two-year-old winner for Archie Watson. Hollie Doyle stole a length at the stalls on Anycity and hard as he tried, One To Go could never quite reel him in, losing little in defeat.

SCARAMANGA
(Newmarket, 18 August)
Scaramanga made his handicap debut here off a mark of 81 following an encouraging third to hotpot Willie John and Hidden Depths at Doncaster, but the cards didn’t really fall his way. Held up by Tom Queally, Scaramanga was messed around in some general bunching over a furlong out, eventually running on into fourth behind favourite Dubawi Prince.

HIGHLIGHT REEL
(Newmarket, 18 August)
His uninspiring form figures didn’t tell the full story of two unlucky previous runs (badly hampered), but Highlight Reel made no mistake in this 7f handicap. There was never any danger of 5lb claimer Cameron Noble getting boxed in, as his mount skipped three lengths clear of well-backed favourite Bertog. Michael Bell’s three-year-old can win again.

POWER TO EXCEED
(Pontefract, 19 August)
Hugo Palmer’s filly is running well without success and she posted another fine effort in chasing home strongly-supported Round The Island. Whilst the winner enjoyed a dream run through from the rear of the pack, Tom Marquand was forced wide to deliver his challenge on Power To Exceed, forfeiting valuable ground in the process. Power To Exceed had bumped into the in-form Goodnight Girl on her previous outing at Newbury last month and is knocking on the door.
