WELCOME to our Eyecatchers column. Every week Alan Thomson pinpoints horses primed to strike in the next few weeks, if not days. Remember, you can add Alan's weekly updates to your ATR Tracker.
SOVIET ROCK ATR Tracker
(Epsom, 23rd April)
Dual Newmarket winner (good to firm) around this period last year and was well supported in this 10f handicap. The softer ground probably found out Andrew Balding's four-year-old in the closing stages as he stayed on at only the one pace in third, but the gelding remains one to keep on your side.
MUTEELA ATR Tracker
(Beverley, 24th April)
Unbeaten in both career starts and Mark Johnston's filly really pointed her toe on this quick ground, lengthening her stride for an emphatic front-running victory. Will find it harder to dominate in bigger fields but looks progressive.
CARDS ATR Tracker
(Doncaster, 26th April)
Distant third behind Perfect Blessings and Penny Drops in this six-furlong maiden but Kevin Ryan's four-year-old showed speed and could be interesting when sent handicapping at a modest level.
SATELLITE ATR Tracker
(Ripon, 26th April)
William Haggas often introduces a nice type in these three-year-old Yorkshire maidens and Satellite made short work of the opposition racing in the Highclere silks. The colt should stay further than this 10f trip and there could be a nice middle-distance handicap in him this season.
LATIN REBEL ATR Tracker
(Ayr, 27th April)
Only moderate and still a maiden at the age of seven. However, the gelding hasn't had a lot of racing and this 10f trip on quick ground isn't what he wants. His excellent second to Calculated Risk over 13f on soft ground at Ayr's Western meeting last September remains etched on the memory and Jim Goldie will be looking to exploit a mark in the 50s when Latin Rebel is returned to a more demanding surface.
SPECULATIVE BID ATR Tracker
(Kempton, 28th April)
Gave hot favourite Heisman a scare, outrunning his 20-1 starting price. Heisman had earlier split a decent pair of maidens, all of which will give David Elsworth encouragement that he can find a handicap for Speculative Bid.
