Runaway Shergar Cup winner Crown Board will look to make the step up from handicap company to Listed class in the Tattersalls Nickes Minneslopning at Bro Park in Stockholm next month.
Few horses impressed at Ascot more than Jane Chapple-Hyam’s six-year-old, who bolted up by three and three-quarters of a length under Norwegian jockey Frida Valle Skar to land the Mile off a mark of 103.
Raised a further 7lb for that win to 110 means an attempt at Listed class would appear the best fit, and the Dalham trainer has earmarked the event on Stockholm Cup Day on September 20 as the ideal target.
“We had a horse called Ambassadorial run second in the race five years ago and we are heading out there again with Crown Board. The horse was bought for the owner to enjoy,” said Chapple-Hyam.
“We all enjoyed Shergar Cup day and now we are going to enjoy Stockholm.”
Chapple-Hyam will mitigate travel costs for Crown Board’s owner by taking Claymore over for the main event on the same card, the Group There Stockholm Cup International over a mile and a half.
The well-travelled seven-year-old is aiming to go one place better than 12 months ago when a two-and-a-half-length second to German-trained winner Nasturia.
Chapple-Hyam confirmed David Egan has been snapped up to ride both of the stable’s runners in Stockholm.
