Amiloc will run in either the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes next or the Goodwood Cup.
Neither race is seen as an easy option, with some of the best mile and a half horses in the world heading for Ascot and Gold Cup winner Scandinavia likely to be lying in wait at Goodwood.
However, Ralph Beckett’s Amiloc put a disappointing performance as an odds-on favourite for the Yorkshire Cup behind him with a creditable effort in a red-hot Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot and connections are keen for last year’s Irish St Leger runner-up to test himself against the very best.
“We were delighted with Amiloc in the Hardwicke, we were thrilled, especially after he had blown out at York,” said Patrick Cooper, racing manager to owner Vimy Aykroyd.
“He didn’t have the cleanest of passages and he was running on well at the end. He was only beaten five lengths in what was a very hot Hardwicke, it was essentially a Group One, definitely the best Hardwicke for a long time.
“We were beaten five lengths by the winner so he was well entitled to have a crack at them.
“There’s a debate going on now about whether we go for the King George or step up in trip for the Goodwood Cup.
“Ralph will make the decision and it will come down to taking on the best over a mile and a half or Scandinavia over two miles so the choices aren’t easy, but when you are looking at Group Ones they don’t just hand them out.”
It is a case of back to the drawing board with K Sarra, the filly who ran so well in the Musidora at York but was beaten a long way in the Oaks at Epsom.
“We don’t really know what happened in the Oaks, she just didn’t travel at all – it was the same as Pride Of Arras in the Derby last year,” said Cooper.
“You go there with hope but if you blow out at Epsom you blow out. Pride Of Arras then did the same in the Irish Derby but came back and won the Great Voltigeur.
“We’ve given her time to get over it and when Ralph is ready we’ll go again.”
