The journey throughout every Flat season involves a series of familiar races that trainers use to prepare their runners for big festivals, and Royal Ascot is no different.

Where a runner came from last time out throws up many trends down the years, especially the individual racecourses which provided stronger form than others.

Some standout numbers appear in the above table with the Curragh leading the way having provided 17 royal winners during the last years.

The profits were also very eyecatching involving Curragh runners, and a closer look at them pinpoints some key areas.

The above qualifiers produced some big-odds winners in recent times, including Cercene, who was third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas before landing the Coronation Stakes at 33/1.

However, of the tracks to have shown consistency in providing winners at this meeting, then both Naas and Chester jump off the page.

Chester especially has really proven a big influence here, especially over longer distances.

Royal Ascot 1m2f or further (last five years)

Beaten up to 15L at Chester last time:

7 wins from 49 runs & 9 placed (+82) A/E 1.74

Following the Chester runners each-way upped the profits to +105.

Goodwood racecourse also made a strong impression with the runners they sent to Royal Ascot in recent years - a total of 9 Ascot winners came via Goodwood from 2010 to 2022, but that total of 9 winners was matched in the last three years alone. Never Let Go was one of the latest when taking the Sandringham at 22/1 having been third at Goodwood a fortnight earlier.

Newbury is another track to consider, more so the last time out winners from there.

Knowing the specific races trodden ahead of Royal Ascot is another handy approach, and the following races all provided a solid springboard to Berkshire.

The Irish 2,000 Guineas was a very reliable guide towards Royal Ascot, especially those that were right in the mix during the Curragh Classic.

Top-two finish in the Irish 2,000 Guineas: 5 wins from 6 runs (+11) A/E 3.03
Third or worse finish in the Irish 2,000 Guineas: 1-19 +4 A/E 0.68

Ascot racecourse itself provides a very informative early-season meeting that is now known as Trials Day, along with several other events in May, including Victoria Cup day.
