Connections of money-spinning Night In Vegas say they have the ultimate payday in mind for the two-year-old, in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland.
Kennet Valley Syndicates have already banked over £200,000 on a 60,000 guineas outlay with wins at Ascot, Goodwood and Newmarket last Saturday when the colt bagged a £170,000 pay cheque for winning the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes.
But now syndicate manager Sam Hoskins is lining up a series of dominoes that could see the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained colt end up with a tilt at the $1,000,000 highlight in Kentucky on October 30.
Hoskins explained: “The immediate plan is to go to Doncaster on September 10 for the Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes as long as the ground is decent enough and not really soft.
“After that there are some nice options with either the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy or the seven furlongs Tattersalls October Auction Stakes at Newmarket on October 3.
“There is of course the Champions Day Conditions race but I would have thought it would make sense to go to one of those races on October 3.
“One other thing, and we certainly haven’t talked about it and I’m sure the trainer would tell me off for mentioning it, but I wondered if he went six and a half furlongs at Donny and then went to the seven furlong sales race and saw it out well, I wonder whether it would be totally crazy to consider the Juvenile Turf at the Breeders’ Cup.
“It may sound mad given it is so expensive to go, but he might have a good old chest (of money) by then. The trainer might yet slap me down but he is a very cool customer and a mile around the bend could suit.”
Whether or not the colt they call “Elvis” at home finishes his season in Lexington remains in the lap of the gods.
But even if he does not win another race this season his ownership group have been royally entertained with three wins, a fifth in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and third place in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
“He has given us some great days at Ascot and Goodwood and it was an amazing pot to win last weekend,” added Hoskins. “It is probably greedy to think we could win another one let alone two but he is nicely in at the weights at Donny and should be one of the favourites.”
