More Thunder looks set to bid for a first victory of the campaign at Doncaster on Saturday week, with connections ready to drop back to seven furlongs for the Betfred Park Stakes.
The William Haggas-trained gelding won both the Bunbury Cup and Hungerford Stakes at seven furlongs during a phenomenal 2025 campaign, where he scored four times in six outings and ended the season an honourable fourth in the Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp.
So far this season he has campaigned exclusively at a mile, finishing second in both his Lockinge Stakes reappearance and in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. But his team are now ready for a change of plan having finished only fifth in his most recent outing in the Prix Jacques le Marois.
“He’s probably going to come back to seven furlongs and Tom (Marquand) is quite adamant that is his trip,” said Philip Robinson, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail.
“He’ll go for the Park Stakes at Doncaster, that’s the only Group race left over seven furlongs in this country and Saeed wants to concentrate on races in the UK rather than going abroad with him.”
More Thunder has displayed remarkable consistency throughout his career, stretching out to win over 10 furlongs when previously trained by Sir Michael Stoute and beginning his time with Haggas with a string of high-class displays at six furlongs.
