Royal Ascot winner Dash Of Spice is currently on the easy list.
David Elsworth’s charge, who also won at the Epsom Derby meeting, was sent off the 3-1 favourite for the John Smith’s Cup at York last time out.
Unfortunately his rate of progression was brought to a sudden halt when he finished only 14th of 19 on the Knavesmire, and owner Jeff Smith is in no rush to make a plan.
“The horse isn’t himself at all, he’s just having a very quiet period,” said Smith.
“We don’t really know what happened, but he just ran as flat as a pancake, I’m afraid. They are not machines, it would be very boring if they were.
“The jury is out on him at the moment as to quite what we do.
“We’ll give it another week or two and then take a view.”
