Highway One O One has been pencilled in for the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton’s Christmas meeting following his good effort at Sandown on Saturday.
Trainer Chris Gordon was pleased with the six-year-old’s display to finish fourth behind Dynamite Dollars in the Grade One Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at the Esher course.
The Winchester handler is now targeting another good prize over two miles for Highway One O One, who had won two and finished second in his three previous races over the bigger obstacles.
“He’s grand, all good. He’s probably run up to his mark. The jockey (Tom Cannon) said the ground was a bit sticky, but I don’t want to be making excuses. It’s the same for everyone,” said Gordon.
“At the end of the day he’s run well and won a few quid for the owner.
“He will go to Kempton on the 27th for the two-mile novice chase there. I’ll aim him to go there.”
