London Icon booked his ticket to Royal Ascot when justifying trainer Adrian Keatley’s faith with a convincing victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Navan.
Keatley will aim the colt at either the St James’s Palace Stakes or the Jersey Stakes after he ran out an impressive winner on his third start of the season.
London Icon (9-4) had disappointed connections in the Listed Tetrarch Stakes at Naas, but bounced back as he made all the running for Gerald Mosse and pulled clear to strike by four and a half lengths from Full Moon.
Keatley said: “I was hoping he was going to do that. We don’t know what happened to him in Naas.
“He just wasn’t happy, even pre-race, and we thought we hadn’t run well enough to go for the Guineas, even though the Guineas winner (Romanised) was only a length in front of us the same day. It was a good race at Naas.
“Nothing really showed up afterwards, but he’s on target now.
“He’s in the St James’s Palace, so that or the Jersey could be an option.”
