Trainer Andrew Balding was pleased to see Genetics rediscover the winning trail in the most valuable race of the afternoon at Brighton.
The son of Manduro claimed the scalp of Raheen House when he lost his maiden tag at Newbury in August 2016.
The latter is now a proven Group-race performer with a three-figure rating, while Genetics lined up in the Park Lane Group Handicap on a mark of just 76 following a largely disappointing run of form.
David Probert’s mount was a 4-1 shot having run his best race since being gelded when fourth at Windsor a week ago and made every yard of the running to seal a one-and-three-quarter-length success over 3-1 favourite Oasis Fantasy.
Balding said: “He did it well and the horse is just starting to get his confidence back.
“He ran well at Windsor last week, he’s stepped up again today and hopefully he’ll go on from this.
“Fast ground suits him well.”
The Richard Hughes-trained More Than Likely confirmed debut promise with a runaway victory in the Roger Is Not Quite 60 Yet Novice Auction Stakes.
The Coach House filly was a 6-5 favourite after finishing third on her Windsor debut a fortnight ago and passed the post seven lengths clear of Induct in the hands of Shane Kelly.
“She did it well, but I wouldn’t be getting too carried away. It wasn’t a great race and I’m not sure she’s beaten much,” said Hughes.
“I’m pleased she won for lovely owners.
“Her next run will tell all.”
The application of blinkers had the desired effect on 7-2 chance Isle Of Man in the Galliford Try Security Southern Water Project Handicap.
Clive Cox’s charge finished out with the washing on his first three starts and unseated Hector Crouch at Lingfield at the start of the month.
However, fitted with headgear for the first time under the same rider, he appeared much improved as he scooted four and a half lengths clear.
Cox said: “I still don’t know what happened last time, but he obviously ducked and lost Hector.
“The cards just haven’t fallen right for him until now.
“We put the blinkers on him at home after his last run, he seemed to face up to them well and they seem to have worked today against lesser competition.”
