Connections of Veracious rate her a “50-50? chance of being ready in time to contest the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday week.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained daughter of Frankel has not been sighted this season after having met with a setback in the build-up to last month’s 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Although the Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly only has a maiden win at Newmarket to her name, she is a general 14-1 chance to make what would be first start at the top level a winning one in the mile prize.
Chris Richardson, racing manager to the owners, said: “Sir Michael is just creeping along quietly with her. She is sound but I’m not exactly sure what the plan will be.
“She does have a Coronation Stakes entry but whether she will be quite ready for that is debatable.
“I would probably say it is 50-50 at this point in time but when one speaks about them it is usually the kiss of death.
“We know she is talented and she will run if she tells us she is ready to and if Sir Michael is happy.”
An outing in the Listed Wolferton Rated Stakes on day one of the Royal meeting a week on Tuesday appears to be next up for Group Three scorer, and stablemate, Autocratic.
Richardson added: “Autocratic may go for the Wolferton. He put in a good performance at Goodwood last time. I watched him work on Saturday and he worked satisfactory.
“I’d like to think he is come back to the form of last year’s Brigadier Gerard win. He is a big burly horse and he has taken a bit of time to get his mind right. He had an injury last year and fractured his pelvis so he was off for a while.”
“If you are not in you can’t win so we will probably give it a whirl.”
