Sea Of Class continued her education with a comfortable win in the Johnnie Lewis Memorial British EBF Stakes at Newbury.

Connections decided to skip the Oaks at Epsom, with trainer William Haggas feeling she lacked the required experience for the Classic.

She was sent off the 30-100 favourite in Listed class and made absolutely no mistake.

James Doyle seemed intent on helping her learn and set the filly a pretty stiff task, sitting a long way off the lead.

She was able to make up ground effortlessly, though, and while runner-up Mrs Sippy also moved menacingly, Sea Of Class took two lengths out of her when she quickened and the race was over.

Sea Of Class showed a little bit of character by flashing her tail but she cruised over the line winning by two lengths.

The winner holds entries in the Pretty Polly Stakes and the Irish Oaks, both of which are at the Curragh.

Haggas said: “I’m happy enough. I’m glad we didn’t run in the Oaks and this is another step forward and we are going to come to a stage now where we go a bit bolder.

“It’s whether we keep her at a mile and a quarter. It will be either the Pretty Polly then the Nassau (Goodwood) or the Irish Oaks, I suspect.

“We will either keep her at a mile and quarter or we will go up to a mile and a half. She will get a mile and a half no problem.

“She was a late foal and she had run two races in her life and it was slow ground and you can see that her feet aren’t very big. When it rained that was the final nail in the coffin for me as she doesn’t want soft ground.

“I was grateful Mrs (Ling) Tsui (owner) left it to us and as tempting as it was as she part-bred her and owns the stallion.

“It is a great temptation to go for a Classic as there is only one Oaks but I think it was the right decision. Mrs Tsui has also indicated she stays in training next year.”
