Sioux Nation and Equilateral top 28 horses still in the mix for Friday’s Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The first-named is trained by Aidan O’Brien and will be trying to give the Ballydoyle handler back-to-back victories in the six-furlong Group One following Caravaggio’s success 12 months ago.

He is one of eight contenders for the O’Brien team with Battle Of Jericho, Fleet Review, Murillo, US Navy Flag, Actress, Could It Be Love and Different League, who was a winner at this meeting last year for Matthieu Palussiere.

Equilateral booked his ticket for the race with an eight-length victory at Doncaster last time and he is set to take his chance for Charlie Hills.

The Richard Fahey-trained Sands Of Mali won the Sandy Lanes Stakes – viewed as one of the main trials for this race – last time and he could clash again with runner-up Invincible Army as well as third-placed Emblazoned, sixth home Heartache and seventh Unfortunately.

Joseph O’Brien has two contenders in Speak In Colours and Now You’re Talking while Gidu could be an American challenger for Todd Pletcher.

Others of note include Michael Bell’s Main Desire, the Roger Varian-trained Laugh A Minute and Raid from David Simcock’s yard.
