Ground conditions are trainer Willie McCreery’s main concern ahead of Bloomfield’s bid for glory in the Munster Oaks at Cork on Sunday.
Runner-up in the Give Thanks Stakes over this course and distance last August, the daughter of Teofilo made an impressive return from an eight-month absence with a dominant victory in the Noblesse Stakes at this venue on her seasonal reappearance.
She proved there was no fluke about that performance when following up in last month’s Vintage Tipple Stakes at Gowran Park, but on both occasions the word heavy appeared in the going description and Sunday’s ground is currently described as good to firm.
McCreery said: “She’s going the right way and she seems in great form at home.
“I just hope the track is in good condition. They tell me they’re putting plenty of water on and hopefully they get a bit of rain, too.
“The ground will obviously be quicker than what she’s run on so far. That would be the only worry.”
Bloomfield heads a nine-strong field for the Group Three feature, with Aidan O’Brien firing a three-pronged assault in his bid to claim the prize for a fourth time in five years.
Flattering appears the main hope for Ballydoyle, dropping in class after finishing fifth behind stablemate Forever Together in the Investec Oaks at Epsom.
O’Brien also saddles Sizzling and Easter Lily, who return to action just eight days after finishing third and fourth respectively in the Silver Stakes at the Curragh.
O’Brien said: “Flattering is in good form. She came out of the Oaks well and any ease in the ground would help her.
“The other two fillies ran well at the Curragh, they seem to have come out of it well and we think the trip might suit them.”
Harry Rogers is praying for rain to give Remarkable Lady her best chance of being involved in the finish.
He said: “If they got a bit of rain then she might be placed. She’s at her best when she can get her toe in.
“She ran well on her first two starts of the year to finish third, but the ground was too quick for her in Gowran the last day.”
Jim Bolger’s Glamorous Approach has chased Bloomfield twice already this season and renews rivalries.
Naughty Or Nice (John Oxx), Jaega (Dermot Weld) and Written Word (Jessica Harrington) complete the line-up.
