Lightening Quick made a successful reappearance in the Coolmore Mastercraftsman Irish EBF Athasi Stakes at Naas.
The daughter of Frankel enjoyed a winning start to her career at Leopardstown last September, but was down the field in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket three weeks later.
Making her first start since that Group Two contest, the Ger Lyons-trained filly was a 9-2 shot for this seven-furlong Group Three and travelled strongly in the hands of champion jockey Colin Keane.
Top-weight Xenobia cut out much of the running and did not go down without a fight, but Lightening Quick wore her down and responded well to her rider’s urgings late on to score a shade cosily.
Xeonbia ran a fine race to finish second, conceding 12lb to the winner, with Broadway third.
Lyons said: “It’s great to win that with a Frankel filly out of a Group One-winning mare (Lightening Pearl). That’s what it’s all about.
“Colin said the first feel he got off her was cantering down to the start, because we are not getting that at home. I don’t mind that, as long as they are doing it on the track.
“We put her in the Ballyogan the other day and you would come back there (six furlongs) rather than go further. It’s something we will have to sit down and discuss.
“She is in the Irish Guineas, but on that run Colin said she wouldn’t be going any further.
“I would say the secret to her is spacing out her runs and keeping her fresh.”
