Connections of French Guineas winner Olmedo have heaped praise on jockey Cristian Demuro.
Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, Olmedo is now set to follow the same path as last year’s winner and former stablemate Brametot, who went on to follow up in the Prix du Jockey Club, otherwise known as the French Derby.
Brametot was partly owned by Gerard Augustin-Normand, as is Olmedo, and his racing manager Sylvain Vidal said: “I think the faster ground suited him, but the jockey was excellent on him.
“Cristian did very well. We were very pleased with the horse but I thought Cristian was excellent.
“We were delighted to win the race again. We’ve had a good run with the fillies and colts, it’s very important for us.
“Avenir Certain, La Cressoniere, Almanzor and Brametot – it’s been a great few years and none of them cost too much.
“I think Olmedo will go for the French Derby. Cristian said he’d have no problem with the distance, a little bit further will be fine.
“Cristian wasn’t too hard on him and it looks like he will stay 10 furlongs.
“After the Jockey Club, we’ll see if it looks like he will stay further. He’s out of a Pivotal dam and distance doesn’t seem to matter to them.”
