Nicky Henderson is hoping to take beaten Betfair Chase favourite Might Bite for an away-day school in an attempt to rebuild his confidence.

Henderson was vocal in his criticism of the stiffness of the Haydock fences last weekend, and believes an early mistake sent last year’s King George winner into “panic mode”.

A return to defend his Kempton crown is the aim – but Henderson may look at taking him away from Seven Barrows beforehand to jump a few fences.

“He made a mistake at the second fence and his brain simply went out of gear after that and we knew our chance was done with very early on,” Henderson told his Unibet blog.

“He hasn’t done any schooling yet, we’ll begin that next week, and start to build his confidence up again, but the 32Red King George is the only place we want to end up so, all being well he’ll be off to Kempton on Boxing Day.

“He’ll do lots more practice at home, but I would like to take him to a racecourse to jump four or five fences away, although if that happens I don’t know – racecourses don’t just open their gates and say ‘go on Nicky, go and jump all our fences’, but there is Warwick which has a schooling ground, so we may have a look at something like that.”
