Charlie Fellowes may step King Ottokar up to a mile on his next start for a tilt at the Masar Godolphin Autumn Stakes at Newmarket.
The Newmarket handler has earmarked the Group Three prize on October 13 as one of three potential Pattern-race targets for the son of Motivator, after he made a winning debut over seven furlongs at Newbury.
Fellowes said: “He has come out of that race bouncing and has actually put on weight from the week before, having had the run in between.
“If he continues in good form we might run him back in the Autumn Stakes, but if I think that comes too soon we will wait for either the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes or the Horris Hill.
“If the entries from the Vertem Futurity Trophy look hot as hell, we will go for the Horris Hill and play it safe.”
