Quick Grabim followed up last month’s Listowel victory in the Grade Three Joe Mac Novice Hurdle at Tipperary.

Willie Mullins-trained stablemate Easy Game and John McConnell’s Pearl Of The West shared pacemaking duties, but Quick Grabim (5-4 favourite) made smooth progress for Paul Townend to lead between the last two flights.

Triplicate threatened briefly but was five and a half lengths behind in second place at the line.

Townend said: “It was a good performance. There was some traffic turning in, but that was my own fault and when we straightened up I had loads of horse to go through.

“I was just afraid Mark (Bolger, on leader Pearl Of The West) would fall back in my lap a bit quicker than he did.

“He picked up smartly. He fell in Leopardstown last season, but they can all fall and he was always good to jump and is good and sharp over his hurdles – he is a real hurdler.”
