Princess Power won for the fourth time in five starts with a battling display to take the Racegoers Club 50th Anniversary Fillies’ Nursery Handicap at Goodwood.

Nigel Tinkler’s youngster had won three on the bounce before losing out in a four-horse affair at Beverley, but she got back in the groove by knuckling down in admirable fashion.

Leading inside the final furlong under Andrew Mullen, Princess Power (15-8 favourite) stuck to her task well to beat Happy Odyssey by half a length.

Tinkler said: “She was a little bit unfortunate the other day at Beverley but we’re happy with that.

“There’s a chance she might go to Doncaster (next week). We’ll see how she is. There’s a six-and-a-half-furlong nursery there for fillies. And the following week there’s Ayr.

“She’ll only have two more runs maximum, possibly just the one.”

Soldier In Action (11-4) wore down stablemate Austrian School to give trainer Mark Johnston a one-two in the Royal Sussex Regiment Handicap.

Ryan Moore made a good fist of trying to make all the running over the two miles on Austrian School but he was hauled in by Silvestre de Sousa on Soldier In Action, who got the verdict by a length and a half.

Line Of Duty (6-5 favourite) showed plenty of grit and determination to get off the mark at the third time in the British EBF Peter Willett Maiden Stakes.

Second on his first two starts over seven furlongs, the son of Galileo out of disqualified 1000 Guineas winner Jacqueline Quest overcame trouble in running to outpoint Pablo Escobarr.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt found the step up to a mile to his liking as he stayed on strongly to score by half a length.

The front-running Esprit De Baileys (4-1), trained by Amy Murphy, held the late thrust of Lyrica’s Lion by a short head under Oisin Murphy in the ROA/Racing Post Owners Jackpot Handicap.

Harry Bentley made all on Ralph Beckett’s Glance (14-1), who had to dig deep to keep out Sunday Star by a head in the Netbet Best Odds Guaranteed/EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.
