Jeremy Noseda has the Dubai Golden Shaheen at Meydan in March as the long-term target for Cenotaph following his victory at Chelmsford last Saturday.

The Newmarket trainer feels the son of War Front will be suited by a dirt track and is looking to aim him at the Group One over six furlongs after he put up a smart performance to win the Chelmsford City Cup.

Cenotaph could head first to America next month for some experience on a similar surface, but Noseda has not ruled out keeping the former Aidan O’Brien-trained gelding on home soil before going to Dubai.

“I have a race in Keeneland in six weeks’ time – a six-furlong sprint on the dirt. I haven’t spoken to Michael (Tabor, owner) about it yet,” Noseda told At The Races.

“Long term, I went into the race on Saturday night thinking the Golden Shaheen in Dubai, so I’ll stick by that. Whether we try the dirt a little bit before, or whether we stay at home and have a couple of runs through the winter and just get him set up for the Golden Shaheen, we’ll see, but that’s it.

“I don’t feel he’s as good on turf, if he goes on turf. I think he’s a better horse on synthetics. I think it’s a decent shot he’ll go on a dirt track. I’d love to try it.

“He had 11 runs with Aidan. He’s come here, he’s in great form, he’s improved and is enjoying his races. He’s got a lot of speed, six is his best trip – we took a chance on seven the other night.

“He had a bad draw and still won. Hopefully he can take the next step from here.”
