PJ McDonald faces a few weeks on the sidelines after being injured in a fall from Westward Ho in the parade ring before a one-mile handicap at Newcastle on Monday.
The northern-based rider sustained fractures to a heel and an ankle which means he will miss the ride on Laurens should the Prix de Diane winner run in the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday week.
The extent of the damage after McDonald was first taken to hospital for X-rays and then saw a specialist on Tuesday morning.
“He’s got a small fracture in one heel and on his other leg has a stress fracture on his ankle,” said his agent Gareth Owen.
“Both are stable fractures so I don’t think they need surgery. It’s just a case of rest.
“We don’t know exactly how long he’ll be off for. He’s going to go back in about two weeks and then we’ll have a much better idea how much longer it will take to mend.”
The fall came the race after he had ridden his 100th winner of the year on Hard Taskmaster.
