Thundering Blue’s targets have been whittled down to a race in France or the Stockholm Cup in Sweden.
David Menuisier has been scouring the programme book for the next suitable option for his popular grey since he outran his odds to finish third in the Juddmonte International.
A Group Three at Maisons-Laffitte, where he could meet Charlie Appleby’s long-absent Ghaiyyath, or the Swedish race later this month are his options.
“Thundering Blue is fine and he will either go for the La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte next Monday or the Stockholm Cup in Sweden. At this stage I’m 50-50. I don’t know what the ground will be like in Sweden, that’s why I have entered him in France,” said Menuisier.
“To be fair there is good prize money in the Stockholm Cup and there are very good travelling incentives, plus it’s a mile-four and I’d like to try him over that one day.
“Also it would give us chance to see how he copes with the flying as his main target is the Canadian International at Woodbine in October.
“Rather than supplement him for the Irish Champion, which did cross my mind, I thought it would be best to go for something a bit easier and take it from there.
“It was a fantastic run at York and he gave us the feeling he didn’t really have a race as he was jumping and kicking two days later. He took it super well.”
