Frankie Dettori admits he is as excited as the racing public about Too Darn Hot’s impending reappearance in the Watership Down Stud Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Just a week on from the Grand National, on Saturday the champion juvenile of 2018 is expected to put his Classic credentials on the line.

With trainer John Gosden having enjoyed the highs of Enable, Roaring Lion and Cracksman in recent seasons, the master of Clarehaven must be pinching himself at the prospect of another potential champion in his yard.

Too Darn Hot began his ascent by winning a maiden at Sandown eight months ago, and returned to the same course for a second victory in the Group Three Solario Stakes. It was then on to Doncaster for the Group Two Champagne, before he continued his perfect progression with a win at the highest level in the Dewhurst.

Dettori told Sky Sports Racing on Wednesday: “I breezed him this morning, just routine – he went on his own, and he feels like he’s matured over the winter.

“He’s full of himself, and I’m looking forward to Saturday.

“He’s filled out, matured and grown a little bit – he’s developed nicely.

“I’m as excited as the general public about it. When you have the champion two-year-old making his first start at three, it’s very exciting.”
