William Haggas believes Young Rascal was too fresh to do himself justice on his return to action at Newbury.
Sent off favourite for the John Porter at Newbury, the Chester Vase winner could only finish fifth behind Hughie Morrison’s Marmelo.
Haggas is now weighing up whether to run his charge in the Jockey Club Stakes at the Guineas meeting at Newmarket or wait for the Ormonde Stakes back at Chester.
“I didn’t think much of the run at all, really. I didn’t like it and was very disappointed,” said Haggas.
“But, my horses are all a bit too fresh – they have been – and I think they’ll get better with racing and he’s come out of that race very well.
“I’m toying with the idea of Newmarket for the Group Two race or the Ormonde at Chester.
“He obviously had no problem at Chester last year.”
