It’s Jennifer will be a rare French raider at Aintree next weekend in the Virgin Bet Grand Sefton Handicap Chase over the Grand National fences.

While it is unusual to see a horse trained in France line up at the Liverpool track, seeing the name Carberry next to one of the contenders could not be more familiar.

It’s Jennifer is trained by Louisa Carberry, who is married to Champion Hurdle-winning rider Philip Carberry. He is a son of the late Tommy Carberry, a Grand National winner both as a jockey and as a trainer, while brother Paul won the great race and sister Nina was a highly-successful amateur rider.

The French branch of the family train at Senonnes in Angers.

It’s Jennifer is a regular on that circuit and was beaten only a length when runner-up in a Grade Three handicap chase at Auteuil on her latest start.

“At the moment, the plan is to run,” the trainer said of her seven-year-old mare.

“She’s very well. She’s in good form.

“I hope she’ll take to the fences, but you never know until you take them to Aintree.

“She’s jumped round Auteuil plenty of times, and that’s a good jumping test, and she’s always been pretty brave.

“We’ve got a couple of similar things to the Aintree fences here. She’s seen plenty of different jumps already at this end, so I think we’ve got plenty of confidence she’ll be OK.”
