Lake View Lad is reported to be in fine shape as he prepares to attempt back-to-back victories in the 888sport Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase at Wetherby on Boxing Day.

The Trevor Hemmings-owned grey landed this prize by four lengths from Captain Chaos last Christmas and has had the benefit of a prep run.

That came in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle, which he had won 12 months ago. He was only last of the five finishers to Takingrisks, but connections were pleased with the performance.

Trainer Nick Alexander said: “Lake View Lad is in good order and the Rowland Meyrick has been the target since Newcastle.

“We were pleased with him in the Rehearsal and he will have definitely come on from it. He had to carry a lot of weight and it was testing ground, but he performed creditably.

“He has been a superb horse for the yard and hopefully he can run another big race at Wetherby.”

One of his main rivals is the Phil Kirby-trained Top Ville Ben, who was third in the Rehearsal after leading until the last few strides.

Rose Dobbin’s Jonniesofa, who was fourth, is also in the line-up, along with old favourites Wakanda and Guitar Pete.
