Top Ville Ben recorded his third success over Wetherby’s three-mile course with a strong performance to land the 888Sport Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase.

Ridden by Tommy Dowson, the Phil Kirby-trained seven-year-old showed he was tailor-made for the West Yorkshire track with a dominant display.

Jonniesofa made the running until Top Ville Ben took over as the field passed the winning post with one circuit left to run.

Jumping well within himself, Top Ville Ben (3-1 favourite) pulled away from the opposition after the final fence to win by eight lengths from Didero Vallis.

Last year’s winner Lake View Lad stayed on well from the rear to claim third place, a further three and a quarter lengths away.

Kirby and Dowson were completing a double after a success earlier with Theflickeringlight (11-8 favourite) in the 888Sport Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

The trainer had three winners across the card on the day, with Lord Rococco (8-1) obliging in the Harry Birthday Dylan Smith The Aviator Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield.

Top Ville Ben was cut to 33-1 from 50-1 for the Randox Health Grand National with Betfair.
