Charlie Fellowes hopes that Escalator can raise his game again and make an impact in the Zabeel Mile at Meydan later this month.

The son of Cape Cross will step up to Group Two company for the first time in his career on Thursday week as he attempts to follow up his recent course and distance success.

Fellowes said: “Escalator is probably going to go for the Zabeel Mile now.

“Looking through last year’s race, it was not overly strong and the winner (Janoobi) was only rated 110, so he would be one of the favourites.

“He is in really good form and seems to like racing out there on ground with a bit of juice in on what is a lovely, flat, galloping track.

“He has got an inconsistent look about him, but when he has been beaten he has genuine excuses.

“It would take a brave man to rule him out of being competitive in the Zabeel Mile as he is improving at a rate of knots and he won pretty easily the other day.

“If he was to win or run well in the Zabeel Mile, we could look at the Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday or skip that and go for the Dubai Turf over nine furlongs on World Cup night.”

With plans to press on in Dubai with the four-year-old, Fellowes has warned a tilt at the Unibet Lincoln at Doncaster on March 30, for which he is 10-1 with the race sponsors, is likely to be off the agenda.

He added: “Had we had a mark of 105 then he would have probably gone for the Lincoln, but he is probably ruled out of that now.

“The people that own him are from Dubai and as much as the Lincoln is a lovely, prestigious race, the owners would much rather be winning races in Dubai and we must try to do what is best for them.”

An outing in the traditional curtain raiser at Town Moor could be on the cards for stablemate Chiefofchiefs, who finished fourth on his most recent start in a Listed contest at Lingfield.

He added: “Chiefofchiefs is in the Winter Derby, but we could save him for the Lincoln. The Winter Derby trial the other day was not run to suit him.

“He loves to come through horses, but he started fourth and finished fourth. If Wissahickon turns up in again in the Winter Derby, we might easily sidestep that and go straight to the Lincoln.”
