Nicky Richards has yet to decide whether Looking Well will run in the 888Sport Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster.
The 10-year-old was a winner at the track last week in a veterans’ chase, and Richards would ideally prefer him to have much longer between his races than 10 days.
However, the unseasonably warm weather is aiding his recovery in time for Saturday, and a decision will be made closer to declaration time.
Richards is, though, likely to run stablemate Chidswell.
“I’m not sure about Looking Well – it will only be 10 days since he won there,” said the Greystoke trainer.
“The one good thing, he’s been out in the paddock – and what weather we are getting, it’s unreal for February.
“He’s bucking and kicking his height in the field, the old devil, so he seems well in himself – but he usually takes three to four weeks to get right back to his best.
“But I’ll see how he is. The weather is set fair for the rest of the week, so he’ll be sunbathing the rest of the week.”
Chidswell bounced back to winning ways at Kelso last time out.
“I’ve always thought he was a decent horse, and staying is probably the thing with him,” Richards added.
“If the ground is like it was at the last meeting that will be fine, and I’m very tempted to run him off a low weight.
“It’s a good prize, and there’s not a lot of entries.”
