Jockey Ryan Day is facing a spell on the sidelines after a nasty incident at Newcastle on Saturday.
Day was riding for Nicky Richards in the Eider Chase when his mount, last year’s race winner Baywing, suffered a fatal fall at the first fence.
“I spoke to him yesterday morning and he text one of the lads to say he was on his way home last night,” said Richards.
“I think he’s broken two or three ribs, he’s lost about a third of his spleen and scraped his liver too and when I spoke to him he said he was very sore, which you’d expect.
“Hopefully he’ll bounce back, he’s a fit young man and I’ve no doubt he will.
“He broke some ribs three or four months ago and was back in a couple of weeks, so he’s obviously a quick healer. We’ll just have to see how we go.”
