Gold Cup-winning owner Garth Broom is hoping for a double strike on Warwick this weekend with Tidal Flow and White Moon.

Broom is, however, fearful that the ground at the Midlands venue on Saturday may be a little on the quick side for both.

Tidal Flow is unbeaten over hurdles, beat Nicky Henderson’s Downtown Getaway with a penalty last time out and is on target for the Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle.

“The idea is to run both, unless the ground tightens too much – that’s our only worry,” said Broom, for whom Tidal Flow is commanding significant respect already in the market.

“He’s second favourite – he looks to have a good chance – so I just hope the ground doesn’t get too quick, because this race looks ideal,” he added.

“The weather seems to be upside down.”

White Moon got off the mark over fences at the third time of asking on New Year’s Day and is slated to run in the McCoy Contractors 2019 Construction News Award Finalist Hampton Novices’ Chase.

Having fallen on his chasing debut at Cheltenham, the striking grey then finished behind Defi Du Seuil at Exeter before his win.

“He jumped the fence fine at Cheltenham, but he just had nowhere to go – he was near enough brought down,” said Broom.

“That was disappointing, and he returned with a haematoma and had seven days easy.

“His first run at Exeter was intended as a confidence-restorer, but it turned into a red-hot race. New Year’s Day looked an easy enough race – it was only two miles, which was short enough, but it was a nice race to get some confidence back.

“His biggest worry there was a loose horse, so we were quite pleased with him.”

White Moon has not raced beyond two miles five and a half furlongs since his successful Irish point-to-pointing days.

But Broom said: “We’re happy enough going up to three miles, because we’re thinking that over two and a half in top company they’ll go plenty fast enough for him.

“We’re thinking he’s an RSA horse, so we need to step up to three and see where we are. Until you try you don’t know.”
