Warren Greatrex believes Emitom has more than enough pace to cope with a drop back in trip when he bids to maintain his unbeaten record at Lingfield on Tuesday.
The Lambourn handler has earmarked the Live Casino At 188Bet Novices’ Hurdle over two miles for the five-year-old, who missed an engagement at Newbury before Christmas following a bad scope, in his attempt to extended his sequence under rules to four.
Greatrex said on Wednesday: “I’m very happy with Emitom. We did a few more tests on him and they came back very positive. He worked this morning and worked nicely.
“All being well we are heading towards going to Lingfield for the two-mile novice hurdle on Tuesday.
“Dropping back from two and a half miles to two at Lingfield won’t be a problem, as he is versatile. He is not slow, but he also stays very well. It is just a case of getting him back on track.
“We will look at something better towards the end of the month or early February, while he will have entries in a couple of the novice races at the Cheltenham Festival.
“If all goes well there is a two-and-a-half-mile Grade Two race at Cheltenham on trials day and a Listed race over two and a quarter miles at Exeter in February, with the Sidney Banks at Huntingdon another option before Cheltenham.”
