John Ryan is considering an ambitious double for Aircraft Carrier after the highly-promising stayer broke the record for the extended two miles at Wolverhampton.

The Dubai World Cup at Meydan on March 30 and the All-Weather Marathon Final at Lingfield on Good Friday the following month may be in sight for the former Aidan O’Brien inmate.

The four-year-old colt, by Declaration Of War, won a fast-track qualifier on Monday – taking his third race for the Ryan team since being bought out of the champion Irish trainer’s Ballydoyle stable for 27,000 guineas at Tattersalls Autumn Sales. He was originally purchased for 350,000 dollars.

“He’s an interesting horse. He broke the track record, which had been done in that race last year by the horse that finished behind us (Watersmeet),” said Ryan.

“The French horse (Funny Kid) that came second that day went out and won the final.

“It will be interesting to see if that gives us a mark for Good Friday.

“That’s going to be his plan. He has got an entry for the Gold Cup, the stayers’ race in Dubai, which we will definitely have to consider and see if that works for us as well.”

This year’s calendar means Ryan can at least consider both races.

“It’s a very nice problem to have,” the Newmarket trainer added

“The two races are doable this year, whereas before it has been a bit of a push. We’ll have to see. Obviously we have to get there from here, but at the moment everything is good.”

Ryan has two other possibles for Good Friday – in Grey Britain, who could go for the Easter Classic, and Sandridge Lad, a likely sort for the three-year-old sprint.

Grey Britain staked a claim for honours when winning a handicap over a mile and a half at Wolverhampton last month.

“He won his race well. He’ll probably go somewhere in between. We’ll maybe look at one of these qualifiers, but we have to decide which one,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time. We’ve probably got a couple of horses that could be aiming for Good Friday.

“There’s a lovely young horse called Sandridge Lad that has done nothing wrong. He’ll try one of those trials for the three-year-old sprint race.”
