There will be no jumps racing in Britain for a second day after Thursday’s meetings at Wetherby and Fakenham were both called off.

Wednesday’s cards at Hereford and Catterick were cancelled due to frozen tracks and with temperatures dropping below freezing again overnight, Thursday’s fixtures have also been hit.

Officials at Wetherby inspected at 8am but reported the venue to be unraceable, with no chance of conditions improving before the scheduled start time of 12.35.

The track tweeted: “Unfortunately, the -2C we had last night on top of the previous night’s frost has left the course frozen and there is not sufficient time or temperature to improve the situation, so today’s race meeting has been abandoned.”

Fakenham clerk of the course David Hunter had been due to inspect at 7am, but was able to make a much earlier call.

The track tweeted: “Today’s race meeting abandoned at 6.15 this morning due to frost. Minimum temperature last night -6.5C and max temperature today will be +3 at 1pm.”

While the British jumps action has been wiped out, no problems are reported ahead of Gowran’s exciting card, which is due to feature the return of leading Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Presenting Percy.
