‘I think he’s a Group One horse’, says trainer Menuisier

Jamie Spencer produced Danceteria with a perfectly-timed challenge to claim top honours in the La Coupe at ParisLongchamp.

A field of seven runners went to post for the Group Three feature, with David Menuisier’s Danceteria one of two British-trained contenders along with the Charlie Appleby-trained Spotify.

With Ken Condon’s Irish raider Success Days cutting out much of the running, Spencer was happy to take his time aboard Danceteria – who kicked off his campaign with a Listed success at Maisons-Laffitte before finishing third in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown last month.

The admirable grey Success Days was still in front as the field headed inside the final furlong, but as his effort petered out, 7-1 shot Danceteria charged home widest of all and ultimately won with something to spare.

Soleil Marin (7-4 favourite) fared best of the home contingent in second, with Spotify third and Success Days in fifth.

“I’m over the moon,” said Menuisier.

“It didn’t look like they went that quick early on, which was a bit of a worry, but he has a terrific turn of foot and he’s a very good horse.

“I think he needed the run at Sandown last time. It was his first run for six weeks and it was also his first run since part of him was sold, so I wasn’t sure where we’re going with him until the deal went through.

“Today he showed his true colours in a competitive race and I think he’s a Group One horse.”

Danceteria was carrying the colours of Australian Bloodstock for the first time in Paris, with his previous owner Clive Washbourn also retaining a share.

Considering future targets, Menuisier added: “He’s in the Eclipse at Sandown and he’s also in Group Ones in Germany and America. All options are open at the moment.

“Having won a Group Three, it would defy logic not to step up to the next level – either in a Group Two or a Group One – and we all know Group Twos are not easy to find.

“The plan is to go to Australia at the end of the year and the main idea is to go for the Cox Plate, so we’ll work backwards from that.

“It’s very exciting for everyone.”
