Phoenix Of Spain is set for a break following his below-par effort in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Charlie Hills-trained colt went into the opening-day feature on a high after an impressive victory in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas, but had to settle for sixth place.
Hills said: “He was a little bit sore (after the race). Hopefully he has not done too much to worry about, but with these things you let the dust settle and see how he is in a couple of days.
“The softer ground may have just pulled him about a bit. All his best races have been on good to firm and maybe he didn’t handle this softer ground.
“At least we have plenty of time on our hands and we will give him a good month or two before reassessing.”
