Persian Moon may be heading to Glorious Goodwood next after performing with credit on his handicap debut in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Mark Johnston, delighted connections last week when finishing fourth behind three Aidan O’Brien runners, headed by South Pacific.

“We were absolutely thrilled. He was only beaten by Aidan O’Brien’s one-two-three – and it was his handicap debut, so we didn’t know what to expect,” said Sam Hoskins, racing manger for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds.

“Obviously you’re giving weight to lot of young improvers.

“He’s run with credit all season and he’s come up against good horses. He faced Bangkok at Sandown, and Roger Varian’s UAE Jewel at Newmarket.

“It was very exciting, and we were thrilled. We might have a go at the big three-year-old mile-and-a-half handicap at Glorious Goodwood next.

“That might be the plan. We’ll see how it goes.”
