Shelley Birkett faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken collarbone and dislocated hip in a fall at Yarmouth.
The 24-year-old sustained the injuries after parting company with Spanish Mane, trained by her mum Julia Feilden, in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Fillies’ Handicap on Tuesday.
Racing was delayed for around 15 minutes while Birkett, who earlier in the card had steered Gas Monkey to victory for Feilden, was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston for treatment on her injuries.
Feilden said: “Shelley is back from theatre and has her hip back in place, but she will struggle with crutches because her collarbone is broken.
“She will be in hospital for a few days. That is the ups and downs of racing. After all that, she is kicking herself because she said if she hadn’t gone for the gap near the rail she would have won.
“I would just like to say thank you to Richard Aldous, who is the clerk of the course, for his help.”
