Forest Ranger in the hunt for Huxley repeat

Richard Fahey’s charge could head to Chester again

Last year’s winner Forest Ranger heads the possibles for Friday’s Homeserve Huxley Stakes at Chester.

Richard Fahey’s charge claimed the Group Two heat in good style last year and was most recently seen when claiming a fair second in the Earl of Sefton at Newmarket last month.

The highest-rated entry is the William Haggas-trained Addeybb. He looked every inch a top-class prospect after winning the Lincoln and the bet365 Mile at the start of last season and while he came up short at Group One level, he merits the utmost respect in this 10-furlong Group Two.

Mark Johnston’s Matterhorn could revert to turf after winning seven of his last nine starts on the all-weather – most recently claiming the notable scalp of Wissahickon in the Easter Classic at Lingfield on Good Friday.

Sir Michael Stoute has two chances in Mustashry and Regal Reality, while Andrew Balding has Morando in contention and Irish hopes rest on Ken Condon’s stable stalwart Success Days.

Course and distance winner Chief Ironside (William Jarvis), Mootasadir (Hugo Palmer), Restorer (Ian Williams) and Fahey’s veteran Gabrial complete the list.
