Grade One winner Elixir De Nutz could make his return from injury in the Unibet International Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.

After meeting with a setback in the run-up to the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, the Colin Tizzard-trained five year old has not been sighted since winning the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown in January.

With connections reporting the Terry Warner-owned gelding to have stepped up his work at home in recent weeks, an outing in the Grade Two contest on December 14 has been identified as a potential starting point.

Joe Tizzard, assistant to his father, said: “The plan for Elixir De Nutz is the Champion Hurdle. He has been in a fair time and we have started ramping our work up with him.

“We’ve not really talked about where he will start too much, but the International is an option as that’s about a month away.

“We just want to make sure he is ready first before committing ourselves to anything.

“He should be ready to run sometime in December, but if he is not ready for the International we will hang fire.”
