Terry Warner hopes Eldorado Allen will soon be able to make up for lost time after missing the second half of last season through injury.

A hurdle race at Cheltenham next month is a possible starting point for the Colin Tizzard-trained five-year-old, who made an impressive winning debut over the smaller obstacles at Sandown last November.

However, his progress was halted when he was the victim of a bizarre incident at Aintree in December, after going off the 8-13 favourite for a novice event.

Eldorado Allen was badly hampered approaching the first hurdle and could not negotiate it, unseating jockey Tom O’Brien and then running loose.

“He won a race very easily at Sandown, was then rated 145 over hurdles and went to Aintree and got brought down when a horse ran across him at the first hurdle,” said Warner, who co-owns the horse with John Romans.

“He got brought down and ran wild on the course. He injured himself and had to have an operation to have bits of bone taken out of him.

“People were raving about him, how easy he had won his first race over hurdles, and there were lots of winners from it. He could be anything if he’s back all right.

“He’s back in light work now and will run at Cheltenham next month, hopefully.”
