Neil King is taking the time to ponder the next move of his stable stalwart Lil Rockerfeller.

The popular chestnut was a 20-1 shot to regain his Coral Hurdle crown at Ascot on Saturday, eventually finishing third in the Grade Two contest he won in 2017.

The performance was a return to the smaller obstacles for the eight-year-old, who previously posted two placed efforts over fences after switching codes during the summer to finish sixth when attempting to win at Glorious Goodwood for the second year running.

King now intends to consult the partnership of five that own the gelding before outlining plans for the season ahead.

“He’s very well, he nearly bucked me off this morning!” he said on Wednesday.

“He ran a smashing race at Ascot over a trip that is inadequate these days. He was the first one beaten coming out of Swinley Bottom, but he tussled all the way to the line to come home third.

“As for what’s next, it’s under discussion at the minute. He’s in great form, but he had a hard race on Saturday. He’ll have a couple of days out hunting to go and enjoy himself.

“He’s got five owners, so we need to have a get together to talk about it.”
