City Light has been retired to stud following his gallant second place in the Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp.
The five-year-old son of Siyouni, who only found One Master half a length too good in the seven-furlong Group One, will stand at the Haras Etreham near Bayeux in Normandy.
It was the second time City Light, trained by Stephane Wattel, had finished second at the top level, as he agonisingly went down by a short head to Merchant Navy in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2018.
“He will retire to stud now. Haras Etreham is one of the well-known studs in France,” said Wattel.
“He was a good horse for us.”
Effective from five furlongs to a mile, City Light chalked up two Group Three victories at Longchamp and defeated the speedy Kachy to land the All-Weather Sprint Championship at Lingfield in March 2018.
In all he won seven of his 22 starts and amassed £500,000 in win and place prize-money.
