Brian Ellison is looking forward to seeing Definitly Red defend his crown in the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.
The 10-year-old got the better of hot favourite Black Corton to land the Grade Two feature in West Yorkshire last season, before claiming the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree for the second year in succession – his 14th victory from 30 career starts to date.
Definitly Red warmed up for his return to action with a racecourse gallop at Wetherby – and with less than a fortnight to go to the Charlie Hall, Ellison could not be happier with his stable star’s condition.
He said: “It wasn’t a hard piece of work, but he had a nice run round and he seems to have come out of it well.
“He’s in good form.”
Definitly Red’s potential rivals in the Charlie Hall include the 2017 winner Bristol De Mai and Black Corton again.
“It’ll be a competitive race, because you’ll have the Twiston-Davies horse (Bristol De Mai) and Paul Nicholls will run something – but that’s what you expect,” Ellison added.
“He’s won the race before, that’s the main thing. We’ll give it a go again.”
