Fox Tal is set to step back up in class after making a triumphant return at Doncaster following 11 months on the sidelines.

A series of minor training issues had kept the son Of Sea The Stars off the track since finishing third in the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud last October, but he shook off ring-rustiness to land a six-runner conditions stakes in encouraging fashion.

Connections of the Andrew Balding-trained colt are now looking at the Group Three Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot on October 5, with the Listed Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket on September 27 as an alternative.

“We’re very pleased. We’ve always thought the world of him,” said Alastair Donald, racing manager for owners, King Power Racing.

“We thought he might be a Derby prospect at the beginning of the season, but he’s had a few little niggles and he has been kept off the track, so to win like that after a long-time off was impressive.

“He’s fine so will probably go for the Cumberland Lodge, or there is another Listed race as Newmarket as well. That’s probably the plan, but it’s really going to be about next year for him.”
