Kimifive will bid for compensation in the William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon later this month following his narrow defeat in the Stewards’ Cup.

Trainer Joe Tuite is eyeing the six-furlong feature at the North Yorkshire venue on August 16 for his sprinter, who was beaten a head by Summerghand at Goodwood when the pair were on opposite sides of the track.

“He’ll go to Ripon for the Great St Wilfrid. It’s the next logical step and the next race worth any money,” said Tuite.

“I just hope we get a bit of luck when we go there.”

Kimifive has been put up 4lb by the handicapper for his Goodwood effort, which came as no surprise to Tuite.

“We thought we’d get a few pounds for that,” said the Lambourn-based handler.

“He ran a cracker. Unfortunately he wasn’t quite good enough on the day.

“He’s come out of it spot on, not a bother. I’m very pleased with him. He’s good.”
