Thundering Blue makes a belated start to the season after being supplemented for the Prix Valparaiso Sporting Club – Prix De Reux at Deauville on Sunday.
Trainer David Menuisier added his popular grey to the field for the Group Three contest over an extended mile and a half following his late withdrawal from the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood last week.
“The ground was too quick for him at Goodwood. That’s why I took him out,” said the Pulborough handler.
“The ground in France is supposed to be good. They water a lot, so I thought let’s go for it and hope for the best.
“I’m sending five to France to run on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, so I thought why not? Let’s put him on the lorry.”
A field of eight includes Jean-Claude Rouget’s Soft Light, who was sixth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last year, and the Andre Fabre-trained pair of Sublimis and Folamour.
Thundering Blue had time off towards the end of 2019 after he was treated for stomach ulcers after appearing to lose his form. He returned to training in the spring.
He had a fine time in 2018, winning at Group Two and Three level and finishing third in the Juddmonte International and second in the Canadian International at the top level.
